At UC Davis Dining Services, all staff undergo comprehensive training to prevent cross-contact and ensure the safe preparation and service of meals for students with dietary restrictions.
As part of our in-house New Hire Food Safety Program, all Dining employees receive training on:
- Allergen Awareness and Cross-Contact Prevention: Staff learn how to minimize the risk of cross-contact through proper cleaning, sanitation, and food handling procedures.
- Personal Hygiene Standards: Proper handwashing, glove use, and uniform policies are emphasized to prevent unintentional allergen exposure.
- Safe Food Handling and Preparation: Employees are trained on using dedicated equipment, such as purple-handled tools for allergen-friendly stations, and following strict protocols when preparing meals for students with dietary restrictions.
In addition, our staff receive ongoing education and reinforcement of allergen safety protocols to maintain the highest standards of food safety.
Students may start by disclosing their need for dietary accommodations to the Student Disability Center (SDC). Create a profile on the MySDCOnline portal to disclose your need for alternative meal options in Residential Dining. Comprehensive instructions on how to access and apply via this portal may be found on the Accessible Housing and Dining webpage. After submitting your application, an SDC specialist will be assigned to review your request and reach out to you via the portal for additional information as needed. You may be prompted to schedule an appointment with your assigned SDC specialist to review the terms of your request. Once your request is approved, the specialist will provide your information to Student Housing and Dining Services.
The disclosure process to request meal accommodations is outlined on our Residential Dining Dietary Support Program website.
